The Affiliate Project X Experiment: Part 1: Setting the Scene

On October 3rd, 2006, Chris McNeeney, super affiliate and author of Adwords Miracle dropped a bomb on the Clickbank Marketplace.

On day 3 of the product launch, this surprising product shattered the sales record for most units sold in one day.

3 days later, the product also broke the record for most consecutive days with 1000 or more sales and was on course to break the record for most sales in a week.

The name of this product, if you haven’t guessed it already is Affiliate Project X.

Affiliate Project XOne thing is for certain. With the sales figures Affiliate Project X put up, it made Chris “rich” one way or another.

What really interests us though, is the following: Did Chris make his money applying the tactics revealed in Affiliate Project X? Or did Chris really cash in by selling his product on Clickbank?

I’m being deliberately provocative here. Chris has posted genuine figures from several of his Clickbank accounts dating back to before the launch of Affiliate Project X and even made a live video showing sales in the half million dollar range for this year.

That’s the kind of job killing money everyone who sets out on the internet marketing journey is after.

So the real question is not whether Chris McNeeney knows how to make money selling affiliate products on Clickbank.

Rather, the question is: “Can Affiliate Project X teach you how to duplicate his methods and grab a part of that incontestable success for yourself?”

The answer to that will come in several parts.

I was a bit slow getting a move on implementing the Affiliate Project X methods, but I had this experiment in the back of my mind and wanted to be sure to do it right.

So mid November, I registered a new Clickbank account. November 22nd, I put up three promotions in accordance with the Project X methods and was pleasantly surprised to find the first sale had been made by the next morning.

In the last week of November, I banked $498.93 in Sales from a total Adwords spend of $96.16 for those campaigns. That’s a profit of $402.77 and an ROI of 419%. Plus I got 139 new subscribers from the squeeze pages, which means I will indeed have made more than these figures suggest.

Time well spent I’d say.

But let’s make this infinitely more interesting.

I think you’ll agree that $500 is nothing to shake a stick at. Nor is it anything to write home about.

Which made my mind beg the question (yes I’m a masochist, thank you for asking): can I jump into the most competitive market on Clickbank using the Affiliate Project X methods AND keep my shirt?

You see the $500 I made was on relatively low competition products, which also means relatively low traffic. I’ll probably make the same $500 this week on “autopilot” but there isn’t much chance I can squeeze more money out of those products.

I have to set up new product campaigns of the same type to make my income grow.

But before I do that I want to give myself a final challenge before the New Year starts. And it’s a dandy.

I want to use the Affiliate Project X methods to promote the very same Project X, exclusively off PPC traffic.

That means expensive keywords, absurd competition and the chance to either have a massive breakthrough or publicly fall flat on my face.

Sounds like fun, wouldn’t you say?

Where to go from here? First I need to write a Chris McNeeney style review for Affiliate Project X and create a bonus that will add real value to the product. And then it’s time to jump in and hope I don’t get torn to shreds.

The way I see it, if I succeed in my mission, I will be able to duplicate this success for all future gigantic product launches, meaning I’ll be retiring sooner than I tought.

Stay tuned for more and check out Affiliate Project X if you don’t have it already.

APX is such a great book isn’t it?

I tried the methods inside to promote the ebook itself but wasn’t successful, probably because there are simply too many people promoting it.

I just purchased KW Elite and am planning to use it in conjunction with the methods in APX. Hope it all works out ;)

Maybe we could share our experiences?

Just drop me an email ;)

    Hi Kang,

APX is a nice piece of work. To me it served more as a primer than an educator but it was just what I needed to put up some more promotions and so far I really can’t complain about the results.

Promoting APX is going to be very difficult. Not because the APX methods don’t work but specifically because the product is so competitive right now.

There are a bunch of “newbs” over bidding on the money keywords and that makes it hard for anybody to turn a profit on them since the real market value for those clicks is skewed for the time being.

I’ve got a really solid bonus planned for it.

I’m emailing you now because I’d love to hear your ideas. You could just go ahead and share them here, after all we could have our little APX discussion club…

As for me, I’ll be posting all progress here publicly and I hope others chip in with their insights.

    Thanks for writing,

    Alex

    Hi Alex,

I’ve just finished reading Project Black Hat, your fascinating ebook.

If you’re going to be marketing APX with such a sensational bonus, you should dominate all competition.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks a lot for your comment.

I will be offering APX with a tremendously powerful bonus and some insight that will make it very valuable.

Strong words I know but I think I’ve really come up with something strong here.

    Cheers,

    Alex

What’s your Bonus on the APX.
I will buy it from you.
I am writing an e-book and developing
    AffiliateAdgenda.com, AffiliateFactory.com along with my parked LowestPrice.com.
I like your Blog and will buy APX from you.
I am going for long term development and building sites that get into the Alexa top 500,000., then 100,000.

    Hi Alex!
Im the newb who replied to your post about d.dollars.
I am interested in knowing whether you think having read what i have already read, it i would benefit more from getting this APX?
I dont mind investing more cash to get more of an insight into this but don`t want to get something that is going to tell me something i already know.
I am thinking now that its a case of getting in the market and learning the hard way through practical experience.

    Hi Simon,

APX is one of the more solid works you can find on affiliate marketing, in my opinion. It doesn’t go into basics much, rather goes straight into recommending some tactics that I’ve put to work for a handy profit.

duvet dollars, is it worth the money after already getting guides like APX and DJK? I hope its not another “how to setup a clickbank account” guides. i recently purchased the xray domination system from the rich jerk…I can’t wait to add those tools and strategies to my arsenal. its amazing too once you get that first “ah ha”, it all fits into place. it is no longer mysterious how guys are pulling 4 figure days. I’m not there yet, but steadily climbing. have a look at my blog and feel free to comment on anything you find noteworthy. its a new blog, so I need some commenting action.

    Hi Rian,

I would say a clear no. After reading those two, Duvet dollars is fluff. I started reading your blog last night. Good stuff.

    Rian…

If you are looking for the precurser to Affiliate Project X and Day job Killer, Adwords Miracle by the same author, Chris McNeeney is the BOMB!

It is not a short book like APX and DJK, more than 200 pages in fact, topped off with instructional videos and all sorts of included extras.

It, (Adwords Miracle),covers everything you’ll ever need to become effective with APX/DJK methods. (and this blog, which, incidentally, has to be the absolute best blog on affiliate marketing I’ve ever seen!)

    Hi Micheal,

I have read Adwords Miracle and enjoyed it a lot. I bought it right after getting APX and it all fits together marvelously.

    Thanks for your comment,

    Alex
