Mr. Rogers – 20 million, 7 minutes

Posted by alex On September - 10 - 2007

You know you’re doing something right when the person you are selling to buys before you can even ask for the order.

That’s what happens here.

In 1969, Nixon wanted to cut funding for PBS public broadcasting. There was a senate committee in front of which Fred Rogers (Mr.Rogers) was invited to speak.

The presiding senator was openly in favor of the cut in funding…

Mr. Rogers is neither flashy nor glib. His presentation is low intensity. He speaks from the heart and it smacks of truth so hard it takes the senator under 7 minutes to make a decision, which he does on the spot.

Great little video…

Pretty amazing that Fred Rogers could make a presentation and change the mind of a Senater that has already made a decision to cut the funding. Mr. Rogers just exudes honesty.

    Hi James,

Indeed, he looks almost helpless but when he starts his little song, you know, 30 seconds in, that he is getting a yes.

I saw this too a few weeks ago. Not sure if a marketer did a mail out or I just found it. I can’t remember.

Pretty impressive though…he wasn’t forceful at all. the most of the video you think he won’t be able to shake em’, but the last few minutes was all it took.

    Hey Rian,

I believe one of Perry Marshall’s associates emailed a link to the vid a while back although I’m not sure if it was him or someone else.

It proves there are many ways to sell, including “being yourself” and especially, speaking from the heart.

  5. The best part was the “backstory” – watching the Liberal-biased media morons, SQUIRMING in their seats.

Here was a Strong “Family-Values” conservative (Rogers), doing what an entire network’s team of Liberals, FAILED to do.

I won’t go through the entire backstory here (which unfortunately could not be included with the video), HOWEVER…

Watch the final 30 seconds again. Listen to the “grudging” pathetic applause by all the Liberals present, for Rogers-the-family-values-conservative “winning the day”…
    :-)
