Adwords Supremacy

On the verge of the new year, I’ve come to an important decision. One that will influence just about everything I do in 2007.

I’m better known for Black Hat SEO and other tactics. And I’m certainly not going to be giving up that very profitable industry. In fact I’ve got my eye on some pretty impressive Black Hat MySpace marketing tactics, but that is a story for another day.

What I’ve decided is that 2007 will be the year of Adwords Supremacy.

I’ve been playing with Adwords for a little over a year now and it has made me some money. The trouble is, like the overwhelming majority of new Adwords marketers, I was either unaware of or ignoring some of the most important facets of the business.

It’s really no secret that there is huge money in affiliate marketing. In fact I’m nabbing an interesting full time income from just a couple of methods, notably incentivized marketing. Again that is another story.

But here is what happened.

In late 2006, one of the big name non-gurus, a guy whose emails I read without fail, turned me on to Affiliate Project X.

I usually ignore just about all internet marketing stuff because it’s just the same so-called secrets re-written and re-packaged with a different cover. Not only that but it distracts you from what you should actually be doing: working your plan.

Shortly after purchasing the book, I popped up a couple of campaigns and saw some immediate returns. In fact some of the campaigns took me a couple of hours to put up and have spurned ridiculous conversions and ROIs over 1000%.

And this was just some part time testing…

The reason it happened is that Affiliate Project X catalyzed in my brain exactly what needs to be done to take an affiliate campaign to the bank.

I won’t lie: I already knew most of it.

I did pick up a couple of tips, sometimes from just a half page of the manual. These were the tips that threw my brain into overdrive. The light went on, so-to-say. And I thought, “ok, this I have to try”.

What it also did for me was serve as a refresher of all that I should have been doing but wasn’t. This includes:

1) Doing proper product research so that you only choose and promote winners.

2) Creating high impact squeeze pages that practically force signups and grows the longterm value of your business day in, day out. When squeeze pages are not possible, finding a way of getting as many of your visitors’ email contacts as possible.

3) Writing proper Pre-Sells that include all the elements needed to make the sale. It’s tempting to be lazy with this but it’s the little extras that bring the big results.

4) Writing high impact PPC ads that have the potential for double digit CTRs.

5) Doing keyword research the right way. Thankfully, I’m already somewhat of an “expert” in this domain because of the immense quantities of keyword research I’ve done for my black hat sites.

6) Using auto-responders to their full potential.

7) Testing, crunching and analyzing results to know exactly where money is being made or lost.

It’s the holidays, it’s late at night and I may be missing something but I think that pretty much sums it up.

If you can master the steps above, there is no doubt in my mind that you can start earning close to $1000 a day by the end of 2007.

Surely those kinds of figures won’t come easy. At least at first.

Like anything else worth doing, I expect it will require some effort to reach top tier expertise. I’m completely willing to provide that effort because I can already taste the rewards.

Since launching the post APX campaigns, the earnings for those promotions are nearing $100 a day.

Sure that’s not real money but the ease with which it is being made is what really stands out. The important thing remains to scale those results. It’s exciting to know that I only need to multiply that by ten to reach my objectives.

And I’m still green and learning at a fast pace…

That being said, I’m guilty of cheating. I’m leaving mad sums of money on the table all because of applied knowledge and the lack of a proper system. These are the things I need to work on.

For example, in one of my campaigns, I’m sending PPC traffic to a squeeze page. Once the user signs up, they get redirected to an affiliate sales letter immediately.

The campaigns is breaking even so far, all the while building a targeted list of optin subscribers.

Here’s where I’m being dumb, mostly through lack of time:

1) I’m not tracking keywords to the extent I should be

2) I’m not offering a bonus to entice people to sign up to my list

3) I don’t even have a single message queued up in my autoresponder

Yes, this is practically shameful and it’s a wonder the campaign is not ruining me. I’m excited about it though, because I know I can probably triple it’s effectiveness with a couple of hours of work.

Once that happens, I can up my traffic spend and multiply the rewards.

What I’m trying to negotiate with myself right now is the striking of a proper balance between learning opportunities.

There are 3 main ways of learning:

1) Scavenging around for free information. This is a long and arduous process and plain not worth it for those that are serious about making money online.

I’m sure you’ve already seen tons of these guys on the forums. “I didn’t buy such and such guide because you can learn everything right here in this forum for free.”

12 months and 500 posts later, they are still saying the same thing and eagerly reading topics like “make $10 a day on Adsense” – Yuck

2) Buying Information. Get the right products and you get knowledge that is condensed, advanced and ready to be applied immediately. More on this in a bit.

3) Trial and error: This is a necessary evil. You need to go out, make mistakes, lose money and correct the shortcomings of your processes. This, in combination with buying information is a surefire way to reach your objectives way ahead of the curve.

4) Bonus method: Pick the brains of experts. Hard to come by but priceless when you can get it…

So this is my road map. Buy information, apply it, test results and consult with experts when available.

This gets easier and easier as you go along because you develop some serious expertise of your own and people at your level will be willing to “trade notes” with you.

Well, it shows I haven’t blogged for a while because I have a lot to say :)

Nevertheless, it’s time to close off this post.

Next up I will be reviewing Adwords Miracle, a powerful introductory guide by the same author as APX.

Also expect some results from my Affiiate Project X Experiment just as soon as I can get tracking up to par.

Happy Holidays and if you’re reading this, I strongly encourage you to set your own online objectives for the coming year.

If you’re going after some Adwords Supremacy of your own, leave a comment and let’s have a chat shall we?

Cheers,

Alex

    Alex,

How better to start your year than with a roadmap… The most important thing I find is applying it besides not constantly changing it.

The hard part for any self-taught entrepreneur is to canalize all his energy on applying and put a kind of break on the learning process.

But again a nice post to end 2006, may 2007 be a prosperous year for all of us!

    PS: Don’t you miss Sharm-el-Sheikh? ;)

    Hi Jad,

The balance between learning and applying is the place to be…

It’s dead cold out here in New York. How are the palm trees?
